Teaching Circle Monthly Topic:
Emptiness teachings: The Heart Sutra
We are happy to introduce a new format for our community practice on Tuesday evenings. The first segment, from 6:15 - 7:15, will continue unchanged with zazen, kinhin and dokusan. This segment will now be followed by an on going, drop-in teaching circle and discussion. This teaching circle will take the place of our class offerings. The evening will conclude with a period of zazen and chanting the refuges. People are welcome to begin at 6:15 or at 7:30. You can attend both parts of the evening or just the part that best suits your schedule and practice.
This is an experiment, at least through the end of the year. We hope to create a lively teaching and discussion session that more people will be able to attend. Always a new perspective on a timeless teaching. Eko Jeff will usually lead the teaching circle, but we hope many senior sangha members will play a greater role, making brief presentations and leading discussions. Topics will change monthly according to the schedule below. We still encourage you to commit to studying a certain topic for a defined period, but you won’t have to register in advance. We plan to have supplemental material available via the website when appropriate. There will be a suggested donation for the teaching circle of $10 per evening for non-members. Members will be encouraged to increase their monthly contribution as they see fit.
Study topics will rotate among ten areas of practice. Though the particulars of the teaching will vary each time a topic is taken up, over the course of any year a practitioner will be able to acquire some familiarity with a broad spectrum of practice and teaching.
Come give it a try.
