SSZ’s Fall Practice Period is a time in which participants commit to intensify their practice as allowed by the circumstances of their lives, calling back to a time when monks would hunker down during seasons of inclement weather. During these weeks, the period’s Shuso (head student) will be offering an online class on Tuesday evenings, Sunday dharma talks will be based on the Six Paramitas, given by Shinmon Michael Newton, Shudō Chris Burkhart, and Kanshin Allison Tait. In addition, there will be a three-day online sesshin in October and all practice period participants will be asked to be paired with a practice partner to support one another in our training and aspirations. All are welcome to join at a level of commitment that works for them. This practice period is open to all, beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
We will officially begin the practice period at our regular gathering on Sunday, September. 27th. The practice period end on November. 22nd
The requirements are:
- Register using the link below. You will be asked whether you already have a partner or if you want one assigned to you. If you have a partner, you will be asked for the name. It’s best if this person is not your spouse.
- Decide what commitments you want to make beyond those that currently make up your practice. We suggest you do this with care; stretch yourself a little but not more than is sustainable.
- Meet with your practice partner at least twice during the period, at the beginning to discuss your commitments and broader intentions and toward the end to discuss how it all went. Consider meeting more often.
I hope that you can join us as we explore the path together.
