Serving during practice
As your practice develops, you may feel drawn to serve during zazen and ceremonies. Service positions like Doan (bells), Jisha (teacher attendant), and Jikido (timekeeper) are an extension of practice—a way to support the sangha while deepening your own attention and presence.
Attendees who are trained in service positions can sign up and manage their schedule through our member portal at https://ssz.zenserve.co. If you’re interested in learning a position, speak with a practice leader or email office@seattlesotozen.org.
Beyond service positions, there are other ways to support the Sangha—from greeting newcomers to helping with setup and cleanup. Click “Sign Up to Help” below to see current opportunities and join our volunteer community.
